Maailmassa on valitettavasti julmia ihmissusia, jotka käyttävät häikäilemättömästi hyväkseen heikommassa asemassa olevia. Kaakkois-Aasiassa tämä näkyy mm. lapsiprostituoituina. Se on sanoin kuvaamattoman surullista. Vaikka et olisi tuollainen oksettava pervo saasta, saatat silkkaa ajattelemattomuuttasi tehdä lapsille hallaa.
Haluan tänään 20.11. olevan Lasten oikeuksien päivän kunniaksi nostaa pohdittavaksi muutamia matkustamiseen liittyviä ohjeita. Osa niistä voi tulla pienenä yllätyksenä, mutta on hyvä, jos asia herättää keskustelua. Ohjeiden takana ovat: Australian Aid, Interpol, UNODC ja World Vision.

Child sexual abuse is against the law. Never engage in any sexual activity with a person under the age of 18 years.

Älä anna rahaa kerjääville tai kaduilla tavaroita myyville
lapsille. Lapset jotka asuvat ja työskentelevät kadulla, ovat erityisessä vaarassa joutua hyväksikäytön kohteeksi.
Instead of giving money directly to children begging or selling food or souvenirs, purchase from local businesses and social enterprises that support families and communities, or donate to reputable children´s charities. Children who live and work on the streets are especially vulnerable to physical, emotional and sexual abuse. Sometimes these children are exploited to beg or work on the street by adults.

Älä kannata niin sanottua ”orpoturismia”. Ulkomaalaisten lyhyet vierailut laitoksissa saattavat olla haitallisia lasten kehitykselle.
Please don´t support ”orphanage tourism”. Visiting and volunteering with children in institutional care can be detrimental to their emotional and physical well-being. Instead support organisations and initiatives that enable children to be cared for within a family.
4 Lapset eivät ole turistinähtävyys! Älä kuvaa tai ota lapsia mukaasi matkoillasi, jos siihen ei ole heidän
vanhempiensa lupa.
Treat children and parents with respect – just like you would at home. Always ask permission before taking photos of children and never take children anywhere without the supervision and permission of their parents or guardians. Avoid giving gifts directly to children. Children in tourist areas are especially vulnerable to physical, emotional and sexual abuse. The tourism industry has enormous power and potential to help make it safer for children.
While we may feel that interacting with local children is a special experience, it actually has the potential to be detrimental to them. It teaches children to socialise with strangers, who may not always have their best intentions in mind.
5 Jos näet tai epäilet lapsien hyväksikäyttöä, ilmoita siitä aina viranomaisille.
If you see or suspect child abuse tell your hotel, tourist guide or someone who can take action to protect the child. Contact numbers for Cambodia, Lao PDR, Thailand and Vietnam, as well as international agencies which are listed on www.childsafetourism.org.
6 Jaa tietoa siitä, miten suojella lapsia matkoilla.
Many people are aware of child exploitation, but often feel helpless about how they can change it. However, our small actions can make a big difference. Spread the word about Child Safe Tourism. Share the information with your friends and family while you travel and when you return home. Good intentions are not enough. Sometimes without realizing it, we do things that inadvertently put children at risk of harm.
